Don't Forget - You're Original

Erik Tarloff reviews Hillary Clinton's memoirs in The Financial Times and comments, One searches the volume in vain for passion, irony, wit, originality, all qualities the private Hillary possesses in abundance. Instead one finds a po-faced, relentlessly upbeat, eerily bureaucratic account of her life.

He concludes that this is partly because, Politics, at least in America, has evolved into a ritualised game played according to excruciatingly artificial rules. Complicated lives must conform to narrow pre-determined roles. It's always an honour to be anywhere. We're always proud of our spouses. Everyone we've ever met is a dear friend. We owe everything we have to our parents, our school, and our place of worship. It's a privilege to be granted the opportunity to serve our country.
