Pyramid Building

It's 60 years since Abraham Maslow devised his simple pyramid-shaped diagram that suggested different levels of happiness. On the bottom are the 'creature comforts' of food, warmth and shelter; then come the 'safety factors' of security and freedom from fear; these are below the 'belonging band' of family and friends; one from the top is the 'self-esteem level' with attendant respect and recognition; there at the 'pinnacle' is the self-fulfilment of inner talents and the achievement of creative goals. This complete 'hierarchy of needs' shapes both personal lives and social bonds. We continue to be pyramid-builders.
